Integrity & Trust
Melvin Chatman Jr. is the Chief Executive Officer of Business Continuity Technologies, a Las Vegas-based Managed IT Services and cybersecurity company dedicated to helping businesses protect their operations, improve productivity, and use technology with confidence.
His leadership philosophy was shaped by 12 years of service in the United States Air Force, where he developed a deep commitment to integrity, accountability, preparation, and service. Those principles continue to guide how he leads BCT, supports his team, and builds lasting relationships with clients.
Melvin began his Air Force career in 2002 as a Pharmacy Technician during a period when many pharmacy operations were still being performed manually. As the department transitioned to automation, he became an integral member of the implementation team responsible for installing and configuring a $400,000 Innovation PharmAssist system.
He was later appointed as the PharmAssist Software Manager, overseeing the system’s configuration, software updates, maintenance, and troubleshooting. He was also responsible for training 15 staff members, protecting more than $1 million in medication stored within the system, and conducting computer security training for pharmacy personnel.
During his eight years in military pharmacy operations, Melvin managed a $7.2 million budget and supervised 18 military and civilian team members. He also served as the Self Aid and Buddy Care Monitor for the medical group, where he evaluated 22 instructors and helped train 244 personnel in emergency response procedures.
His dedication to developing others extended beyond his primary duties. As president of the base’s 5/6 organization, Melvin helped mentor and lead approximately 350 Noncommissioned Officers. He also served as a member of the Base Honor Guard, performing military honors for fallen active-duty service members and veterans.
Melvin later served four years as a Military Training Instructor (Drill Sergeant), where he was responsible for transforming more than 400 civilians into Airmen each year. He supervised as many as 120 trainees at one time, maintained accountability and electronic records for up to 1,200 Airmen, and managed more than $1 million in government resources.
Throughout his military career, Melvin was recognized for his leadership and performance. His honors included Member of the Month, four selections as Noncommissioned Officer of the Quarter, and recognition as the 2010 Noncommissioned Officer of the Year. As a Drill Sergeant, he was awarded the Coveted “Blue Rope” designating him as the top 10% of the instructor corps. The official term is Master Military Training Instructor (MMTI).
After being honorably discharged from the Air Force in 2014, Melvin began the next chapter of his career in Information Technology. While studying at Central Carolina Technical College, he was offered an opportunity with Tandem Health, where he provided technology support across four locations.
His first major project involved migrating 120 users from an on-premises Microsoft Exchange environment to Microsoft Office 365. Through detailed planning, testing, and execution, the migration was completed with minimal disruption to employees.
Melvin quickly developed broad, hands-on experience across nearly every level of business technology. His responsibilities included structured cabling, workstation and server installation, network switch and firewall deployment, printer installation, Group Policy administration, Active Directory management, Microsoft 365 administration, inventory management, end-user training, remote monitoring, physical security, and network security.
He also gained extensive experience designing, configuring, and deploying cloud-based business phone systems. His expertise was instrumental in the successful installation of more than 150 phones for organizations with a wide range of communication needs.
When Melvin joined Business Continuity Technologies, he entered the Managed Service Provider industry as a Help Desk Engineer. His willingness to learn, solve problems, and take ownership quickly made him a trusted resource within the company. He became BCT’s internal champion for ConnectWise, improved service delivery processes, and expanded his knowledge of server administration, network infrastructure, firewall configuration, cybersecurity, and business continuity.
Melvin also helped lead numerous client technology transitions, including server and cloud migrations, network upgrades, communication system deployments, and a major conversion from Apple computers to Windows-based business systems.
His appreciation for structure and accountability led him to begin developing policies, procedures, and documentation to improve BCT’s daily operations. What began as a technical role steadily evolved into a broader leadership mission. Today, as CEO, Melvin focuses on strengthening the company, developing its people, improving the client experience, and ensuring BCT continues to deliver technology solutions with Integrity, Professionalism, & Excellence.
Melvin believes technology should help businesses grow, not slow them down. He is passionate about transforming complicated technology and cybersecurity concepts into clear, practical information that business owners and employees can understand. This commitment to education is reflected through BCT’s CyberTips content and his Thoughts From The Dragon platform, where he shares lessons about leadership, personal growth, cybersecurity, business, and life.
He holds the CompTIA Security+ certification and has earned certification as a Datto Specialist. However, his greatest strengths extend beyond certifications. Melvin is known for his attention to detail, strategic planning, problem-solving ability, and commitment to serving others.
When he identifies a challenge, he does not look for the fastest temporary fix. He works to understand the root cause, develop the right solution, and execute a plan designed to create lasting results.
Through his leadership, Business Continuity Technologies remains focused on a clear mission: protect businesses, educate people, build long-term relationships, and become a trusted extension of every organization it serves.
